Upcycling with Stix2

Upcycling is the perfect creative way to give an old pre-loved item a new lease of life. Debbie Frost has been using her crafty skills and some of her favourite Stix2 products to make a lovely photo frame.

Instructions

Using these Stix2 products, you too can create your own bespoke photo frame by following the steps below.

Firstly Debbie scrunched up some White Stix2 Tissue Paper and stuck it to the frame using Stix2 PVA Glue to give texture. She then left this overnight to dry.

Next she gave it a coat of Black Gesso Paint and left this to dry.

Debbie then used the new Stix2 2in1 Glue Pen on the texture created by the Tissue Paper. She applied the glue and then left it to go really tacky (about 1/2 hour) . At this stage it's great to use with Stix2 Transfer Foils in gold, copper and green.

The foliage for the jungle look came from Sizzix Tim Holtz "Wildflowers" Thinlets die set. Debbie took a piece of A4 Tinted Black Card and randomly applied Creative Expressions Metallic Gilding Polish in Citrus Green and Mediterranean Blue and then cut with the dies. The Stix2 Glue Pen was really great for sticking the flowers in place as it has such a lovely fine nib.

She then mounted the tiger onto another sheet of A4 Tinted Black Card and the whole thing was assembled using Stix2 Polyester Ultra Sticky Tape.

Sparkly Pumpkin

Want to add a bit of bling to your Halloween? Why not make these glittery pumpkins to sparkle and shine at any party.

Handmade by Emma Whyley 

Thing  you Will Need: 

Orange Stardust Card
Bottle Green Stardust Card

2 Brads or Split Pins
Optional Leaf Die Cut Scissors
Paper Trimmer Scissors
Pokey Tool
Piercing Mat

Instructions:

You will need minimum 8 strips of paper, cutting them four 1” and four 1/2”. When stacking mix it up for different effects.

 With a holly leaf die and the green glitter card, cut some pumpkin leaves for decoration. If you do not have a die cutter simply cut leave shapes using scissors.

Using your pokey tool and a piercing mat, make holes in each end of the strips of card and onto the base of each  leaf.

Line up the paper strips and insert a brad or split pin. Do the same to the other end, remembering to add the leaves to the top. Close the brads and fan out the pumpkin.

You can make these a hanging decoration by adding Raffia.

DL Angular Cards with Layer Perfect

Using the Layer Perfect you can create different shapes, layers and many more projects. Here is a quick how to and making a DL Angular card.

DL Angular Cards

1. Place the layer perfect onto one of the short edges of the card.
2. Line up so the Layer Perfect measures. 2 3/4” on both sides. Cut with a knife.
3. Repeat at the other short edge.
4. Now you have a basic chisel card.

Laying Shapes with the Layer Perfect

Below is a guide on the correct way to lay shapes using the Layer Perfect.

Laying Shapes

1. Lay the first shape onto a cutting surface
2. Lay the second smaller shape on top and push both to the corner of the Layer Perfect where the right angle is.
3. Find the difference in measurement between the two shapes and half this amount
4. Glue the smaller shape
5. Place the largest shape under the layer perfect as shown by the final measurement
6. Then place the shape to be centred directly on top. This shape will butt up against the right angled steel edges.

Now the shapes are perfectly matted and layered. Remember when working with multiple layers always start with the top or smallest layer first.

The Layer Perfect works with all shapes and sizes including stars, circles and ovals.

Autumn Craft Hobby + Stitch Show

Autumn Birthday

Its that time of year where the leaves start to turn. Wish someone a Happy Birthday with this Dew Dropped Autumn inspired card.

Things you will Need:

A4 Masking Sheet S57268
PVA Glue S57048
Clear Beads S57333

Pens, paints and a paintbrush
Inks
Blank Card
Woodware Curly Leaves Stamp
Background Stamp
Sentiment Stamp
Scissors

Instructions: 

Stamp the large 'Curly Leaf' stamp onto a corner of the masking sheet then cut it out using small scissors. You don't need to be too careful and don't worry about the fiddly bits.

Peel the plastic from the back of the masking sheet and lay the sticky, stamped image onto your card in position and press down gently.

Stamp the backgrounder stamp in a pale colour over the entire card and masked shape.

Peel back the masked shape to reveal an blank area and then stamp the image over the gap left by the masked sheet. Use a different colour ink to the background to make this stand out more.

Using the Paints and Pens add colour to corners of the image.

Stamp your sentiments on the card.

Put the PVA Glue in small areas on the image and add the Clear beads. Press the beads into the glue to make sure they are in place and leave to dry.

Sparkly Happy Birthday

This is for a traditional Happy Birthday card with a sparkly effect!

Happy Birthday Die
Heart Lattice Background Die

Instructions:

Score a sheet of black card in half to make your card blank.

Cut the heart lattice background die from the self adhesive sparkle sheet and stick on to the front of your card - some trimming may be needed depending on the size of the card.

Using the Layer Perfect cut a black rectangle to fit the birthday die and a larger one to layer up with from the stardust card, layer the 2 at a jaunty angle!

Stick the cards together using the Tape Runner.

Mount the "Happy Birthday" topper on to the card and add 3 clear foam pads to the bottom corner, then press over with silver foil for a faux brad effect.
